Truly the wicked never rest and Monsanto yet again is waging war on health-concerned consumers with the latest garbage "Monsanto Protection Act" managing to sneak in wording in the latest Senate legislation that would give these bastards blanket immunity from any USDA action regarding the dangers of their genetically modified creations while under review. The USDA would be essentially powerless if any or all new GMO crops were suspected of causing harm to human health and the environment.
It is a legislative weapon that could be passed if people do not gather support and force the US senate to eliminate the section. It started late Monday, when lobbyists working for Monsanto-fronted biotech company managed to slide a "rider"(though the deceptive Farmer Assurance Provision, Sec.735) into the Senate Contuining Resolution spending bill that is on the table of the Senate.
There is a petition however to stop what has been called the "Monsanto Protection Act" has been launched by Food Democracy Now, detailing what could happen should this legislation be signed into law in the coming days or even weeks:
"If approved, the Monsanto Protection Act would force the USDA to allow continued planting of GMO crops under court review, essentially giving backdoor approval for any new genetically engineered crops that could be potentially harmful to human health or the environment"
And the Monsanto Protection Act would trump the Federal Government as Federal courts would be powerless to regulate the sale and even cultivation of illegal and dangerous GMO crops instead handing over their power to Monsanto and the biotech industry. The same thing that happened last year is coming back when this was on the table last summer in fact, during that time there were major food groups that united together to oppose this that included the Center for Food Safety, The National Family Farm Coalition, the American Civil Liberties Union(ACLU), the Sierra Club and the Union of Concerned Scientists all came together to speak out against this legislation and bombshell that was slipped into the 2012 Farm Bill and the 2013 Agriculture Appropriations Bill
and Now Monsanto is back at this again, I urge Americans to peacefully kick Monsanto out of your Senate and let it be known that any of your politicians who side with big Biotech that they won't be there much longer
