What makes this story nauseating is the fact that this poor man lost his wife due after a 5 year battle with cancer and He wanted to live there and be buried next to his wife on his own property as she is buried there. I find it horrifying, appalling and disgusting to treat someone who fought for their country in World War 2 in such a callous manner. He saved over 2,000 people in the Philippines in 1945(the article mentions) from the Imperialist Japanese soliders who wanted to slaughter them to death and so on but the story begins when He had medical expenses and credit expensives that just kept piling up and so he filed for bankruptcy. According to the man and numerous witnesses, He had no intention of selling his land and home and I as I mentioned before he wanted to be buried there with his deceased wife. The article mentions this: "He was pressured and coerced into entering a "stipulation" denying his bankruptcy discharge and waiving his homestead exemption and thus coerced into selling his home" all because he wouldn't mention the gold and silver him and his wife had put aside for when they retired and etc..
Even if he was in the wrong about the gold and silver, this whole thing could have been handled much better if they just let him use his coins to pay off his debts to the creditors but no they pressured him and threatened him and forcing him to exhume his dead wife's body off the property. The other thing that makes me sick is that he has been recently diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and the court denied his motion(while he was in the hospital he had sent this motion to continue proceedings once he got out) to say he did not have the mental capacity(he is 89 and his mental capacity is not that great and he has hearing issues, which is normal for when you age) to continue and basically gave the Trustee the okay to kick this man off his property. This is how the US government thanks a war hero who fought for his country??? thanks for your service but we are going to take your property from you and leave you homeless.. truly sick...
I feel bad for this man but if there is any good news is that friends of his have stepped up to give him a room and they set up an account if you want to donate(which is posted at the end of the article) to help his defence..
